elijahgragas00
Eligibility
Your child may be eligible if:
- Your child has a diagnosis of ASD
- Your child is ages 8-12 years old
- Your child speaks English OR both English and Spanish
Purpose
The purpose of the study is to understand how the brains of individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) differ from those who are typically developing (TD). Participation in this study will help us answer two main questions. 1) How does the autistic brain differ functionally and structurally to that of a typically developed brain? 2) How do language experiences impact executive functioning in children with autism?
Overall we hope that this study will help to better inform clinical guidance for families, while also illuminating how speaking one or multiple languages in the home influences children with autism.
Involvement
- Participating in our study involves two visits to UCLA: one for cognitive assessments and one for an MRI scan. Both visits will last about 3 hours max.
Benefits
- Participants will receive $100 for participation and a picture of their brain scan.
- Parking costs will be covered.
- Participants will also receive a performance summary letter regarding the assessments from the first visit.
